GALVANIZING MASKANT

GALVANIZING PRODUCT

GALVANIZING MASKANT TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

GALVANIZING MASKANT is a water borne liquid maskant that can be applied over a clean surface by brushing, dipping, or spray to the surface to be masked. It is used to mask off certain areas of a part that are not to be galvanized. For best results, it is recommended that the maskant be applied by brush, using a thin primer coat, followed by 2 or 3 more thin coats. If spraying or dipping is the desired method of application, the viscosity can be reduced, if needed, by adding water and mixing. This will reduce the possibility of the maskant being applied too thick, which can result in crack formation, resulting in voids and also less adhesion. GALVANIZING MASKANT can be allowed to air cure or it can be placed in a oven for a faster cure rate. Under normal ambient conditions parts can enter the galvanizing process within 4-6 hours after application. Cure may be accelerated by increasing ambient temperature When using an oven to cure GALVANIZING MASKANT, it will cure in approximately 30 minutes to one hour. Galvanizing MASKANT with a viscosity of 6,000-10,000 cps can be applied to a very sharp line. GALVANIZING MASKANT can be removed from nonporous surfaces by mechanical or manual wire brush. GALVANIZING MASKANT contains additives to enhance dimensional stability which require suspension during application. Use care in stirring to avoid introduction of air bubbles. GALVANIZING MASKANT contains an easy to detect white color to readily enable determination of application location, detection of inadvertent application and completeness of removal.
